SPOKANE, Wash. -- A note left on Craigslist might give Washington State Patrol investigators some insight into the man shot and killed by Spokane police.

Investigators said police received a call about Jacob I. Dorfman the night before he led officers on a pursuit which ended in his death. Dorfman died on Tuesday near 8th and Adams of multiple gunshot wounds. The Spokane Police Department indentified Adam Valdez as the officer who shot Dorfman.

Russ Mailloux said he called police earlier in the day to warn them about an online threat possibly posted by Dorfman. Mailloux was browsing the Craigslist and found an anonymous post which raised concerns.

The post read, “I tried to live this life and ignore how cruel it can be. Though no matter it just seems useless. I bought a gun to shoot myself, but first I figured to kill someone else. what a shame to waste a life. I couldn't decide who really needed to die. Should I shoot a criminal? Or is it time for a good guy to go? Oh hell, I guess I’ll just start shooting whoever happens to be in the way. Goodbye cruel world, goodbye, and when I'm down in the ground this sick world will keep going.”

Mailloux said the post was titled “Goodbye cruel world, apartment 2.”

“There was nothing else in my mind except calling 911 and putting it in the hands of the professionals,” said Mailloux.

Investigators confirmed that Dorfman lived in apartment 2 near 8th and Adams. They are now working on warrants to obtain the IP address for the Craigslist post.
