SPOKANE, Wash. -- A suspect accused of robbing a Spokane pizza shop was caught with the help of two alert citizens.

A man driving by Papa Murphy’s Pizza near Ash and Rowan noticed the robbery happen.

He told police he saw a man wearing a mask peek into the business’s window around 7 p.m. When he circled back around, he noticed the man run from Papa Murphy’s and hop into a red Chevy Blazer. He tried to follow the suspect, but lost track of the vehicle near Shadle.

Employees told police the man demanded money when he entered the store. They said the man mentioned a knife, but they did not see a weapon.

Another person heard the robbery call over his personal police scanner and soon after saw a Blazer matching the description of the original vehicle in Shadle. He alerted police, who caught up with the suspect on Driscoll Boulevard.

Matthew Doud, 32, was arrested for second-degree robbery. Police say they found evidence connecting Doud to the Papa Murphy’s robbery in his apartment.
