CHATTAROY, Wash. -- A teacher at Riverside Elementary School is competing for a free classroom makeover. An online contest picked Mindy Shaw’s class as one of ten finalists for the Great American Classroom Makeover.

The ten classrooms compete online for votes. The winning class earns $5,000 from Great American Financial Resources. Second place wins $2,500 and third place earns $1,000.
Shaw runs the technology lab at Riverside. She applied for the contest to upgrade equipment in the lab.

“As teachers we are constantly asked to do more with less and we do so constantly with smiles pasted on because we love our kids and live to teach,” said Shaw.

The technology lab contains 30 computers. However Shaw said only half of the computers work consistently and some of the chairs are broken.

Riverside Elementary School is the only Washington school in the contest.

The online voting ends February 22nd.
