Man robs CDA espresso stand wearing SpongeBob mask

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho -- Coeur d'Alene Police are actively looking for an armed robber who held up an espresso stand while wearing a SpongeBob Square Pants mask.

An employee at Lean Bean Espresso on Sherman said she noticed someone suspicious standing outside when she took out the trash. Surveillance cameras then show the suspicious person follow the employee inside the espresso stand around 6:00 p.m.

The barista aid she thought it was a joke at first. Ohnstad told KREM 2 News that she quickly released it was not a joke when the man pointed a gun at her. The suspect demanded cash, grabbed the money, and left.

The man, who wore a black hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored baggy jeans, reportedly thanked the ladies as he was leaving and told them to “have a nice day.”


Officers are using K-9’s to track the robber right now.
