COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- Police stopped a woman dead in her tracks while she allegedly attempted to burglarize a Coeur d’Alene home.

Deputies responded to the house near Driftwood Drive and Greensferry Road around 1 p.m. Monday.

A neighbor looking after the house for the owners noticed footprints in the snow in the yard. He saw fresh tracks leading from the street to the house, but none leaving the residence.

Deputies searched the home and noticed many of the expensive items like televisions and other electronics were disconnected. Police believe someone was preparing to take them from the home.

Police say they located Laura K. Kees, 50, hiding beneath a storage tub in the garage during their search. Kees allegedly tried to blame the burglary on a friend, but could not explain why only one set of footprints was found in the snow.

Kees was booked into the Kootenai Co. Jail for burglary. This is her 25th stop there, where she has served time for various charges including DUI, battery and possession of drugs.
