SPOKANE -- Two members of the Spokane City Council are taking a public stand on the issue of gun control
Mike Fagan and John Snyder will introduce to separate resolutions at Monad night’s council meeting. The resolutions are non-binding and will have no impact on City policy, but the councilmen hope they will influence state and national lawmakers.
Fagan said he is worried recent talk about gun control in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School will lead to a violation of his Second Amendment rights. He wants a resolution stating outright that the City will not do anything that infringes on the Second Amendment.
Snyder plans to ask the council to get behind two bills in the Washington State legislature which include upping the punishment for teens convicted of multiple times of having an illegal gun.
Both resolutions could pass as they do not necessarily compete with each other.
Council members will hear both resolutions at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday night. Public comment is scheduled for next week.
