BOISE -- Members of the US Congress are taking action to try to help free a Boise pastor being held in Iran.

Saeed Abedini was captured in Iran last summer. The pastor holds dual citizenship in Iran and the USA. He was in Iran visiting family and working on an orphanage.

He is being held in what his legal team said is one of the most brutal prisons in Iran--Evin Prison in Tehran. Then his case was assigned to a branch of the court system known for their harsh sentences.

Members of Congress representing Idaho, and other states are stepping up and sending letters to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. They are asking Secretary Clinton and the State Department to help free Abedini.

The letter from Senators was signed by Crapo, Risch and nine others, and the letter from Representatives was signed by both Labrador and Simpson, along with more than 25 other house members.
