ST. JOHN, Wash. -- The small town of St. John, Washington in Whitman County will keep its post office.

Postal service representatives visited the small town Thursday night to determine how to save money.

According to St. John Mayor K.B. Trunkey, the postal service decided to cut down hours of operation to six hours a day.  The post office will also be open for just four hours on Saturday.  The Post Master will go to Lacrosse leaving a part-time Post Master.

A petition went around town asking for no cuts or closures.  It was signed by several hundred people.

The postal service will re-evaluate the future of St. John's post office in one year.
