HAYDEN, Idaho -- Flames destroyed a home in Hayden, Idaho.

At 6:43pm on Sunday, January 13, Northern Lakes Fire District emergency personnel were dispatched to a possible structure fire on Dodd Road in Hayden.  A passerby noted heavy smoke coming from the 2,000 square foot home.  The passerby didn't see any flames but did call 911.

Units arrived at 6:54pm to a fully involved, two story home and a second alarm was called.  Due to the extensive fire involvement in the home, it was determined that efforts would be to protect nearby exposures including a large propane tank.

Due to no hydrants in the immediate vicinity, water tenders arrived to provide additional water.  Crews from Northern Lakes, Coeur d'Alene, Timberlake, Spirit Lake, and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue assisted.  The home was a total loss with heat damage to nearby trees.

The homeowners did not provide their names and their address.  The owners had been notified initially by a monitored alarm service and arrived shortly after crews arrived.  The owners and their young children were away from the home at the time.  No injuries were reported to firefighters or pets.  According to the owner, the home was insured and arrangements have been made for housing for the family.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
