MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. -- Church members are recovering following some vicious vandalism in Medical Lake.

At least one person caused $50,000 in damage this weekend. More than 300 members of Lake City Assembly of God found the mess Sunday morning. By Monday, they were ready to rebuild.

Vandals broke down doors, destroyed expensive sound equipment and smashed nearly everything in sight.

“Are all of these pews going to have to be replaced? We don’t know yet, but whatever we need to, we will get replaced,” Pastor Nick Hawkins said.

The sheriff’s office turned the case over to Medical Lake detectives. They say they have a pretty good idea of at least one suspect’s identity. Footprints were left in the fine powder remains after the fire extinguishers were sprayed.

Despite unanswered questions, the church is determined to move forward.

“Have we been violated? Sure. But we also forgive these people and they are still part of this community,” Pastor Hawkins said.

Church members say it won’t be easy. What took hours to destroy will take much longer to restore.
