MEDFORD – Two people died and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 140 near Medford Friday night, police said.

Just after 6 p.m., a 2000 Toyota Tundra crashed with a 2001 Honda Passport on an icy section of the highway near milepost 18, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.

The eastbound Toyota pickup crossed the center line and was hit on the right side by the westbound Honda, Hastings said.

The Honda’s passenger, 25-year-old Larisa Bailey of Klamath Falls,  died at the scene. The driver, 34-year-old Kristi Duncan of Klamath Falls, was flown to the Rogue Valley Regional Medical Center where she died, Hastings said.

Both victims were wearing seat belts.

Two men in the backseat of the Honda, Dennis Gillespie, 23, of Klamath Falls and Kenneth Tevald, 39, of Weathersfield, Conn., were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, 37-year-old Jacob Layer, and his 8-year-old son, both from Medford, were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Hastings said.

The highway was closed for five hours Friday. Investigators were working to determine the cause of the crash.
