ALOHA, Ore -- Mike Ryel has called the Willow Springs Apartments in Aloha home for eight months.

"For the most part it's pretty quiet," said Ryel.  "They (kids) play together and have fun."

That is why Ryel is upset.

Around 10 a.m. Thursday morning, not far from where those kids play, authorities say Jose Ponce-Guitron, 46, used a metal tool to break inside the apartment of his estranged girlfriend.

Ponce-Guitron then attacked the woman with a knife.  She suffered a deep cut to her neck.

"Unbelievable actually," said Ryel.  "We don't have domestic violence or stuff like that in here."

The ordeal has left neighbors with a feeling that can only be described as unsettling.

"It's a great neighborhood," said Guy Bailey.  "Everyone's friendly, know everybody here."

Bailey even knows the suspect.  He never thought Ponce-Guitron was capable of such a violent crime.  He and Ryel are hoping for his capture.

"We don't need anyone like that out there," said Ryel.

Ponce-Guitron may be driving a 1999 Honda Pilot, Oregon license plate YMY389.  You are urged to call authorities if you have any information about the case.
