GRESHAM, Ore. -- A report of shots fired outside a Gresham apartment complex led to a standoff early Monday morning, and the weapon turned out to be a BB gun, police said.

Police were called just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday to the report of a man firing a gun at a woman in the parking lot of the Dawson Village Apartments, near Northeast Halsey Street and 172nd Avenue, Gresham Police Lt. Claudio Grandjean said.

Arriving officers spoke with the 911 caller and were able to find a man matching the description of the shooter. The suspect went into an apartment and refused to come out.

Additional law enforcement agencies were called to the scene and the suspect eventually surrendered after about three hours. Gresham police took 45-year-old Albert Gerrard LeRay into custody.

Investigators found a BB gun that had been used during the dispute. LeRay was arrested for assault, menacing and criminal mischief.
