WOODBURN, Ore. -- A couple reported missing from Redding, California Monday was found safe Tuesday morning in their car, 400 miles north of their intended destination, police said.
The 85-year old man and 83-year old woman were reported missing at 7 p.m Monday, according to Lt. Gregg Hastings of the Oregon State Police.
"A daughter told police her stepfather picked up his wife from a local care facility for a short drive to her home for a 6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve dinner and didn't arrive," Hastings said. He said it should have been a ten-minute drive.
The couple was located Tuesday morning by an OSP trooper when their stalled car was reported on Interstate 5 near Woodburn, nearly 400 miles north of Redding. They were taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital for a medical evaluation.
Family members drove to Oregon and picked them up. They were headed back to Redding Thursday morning, Hastings said.
