SHERWOOD, Ore. -- The northbound lanes of Highway 99W were temporarily closed Wednesday morning after a car crashed into a dump truck that was hauling a trailer, police said.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m., about three miles south of Sherwood.

The car had turned into the trailer and was impaled, said Sgt. Bob Ray of the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The driver kept going, dragging the car down the highway about 1,000 feet before he realized there had been a crash.

The driver of the car was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital, where she was reported in critical condition. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The roadway was partially blocked and the northbound lanes were closed during the investigation.
