SPOKANE -- Melissa Burtt spent the morning cleaning up what seemed like millions of pine needles after an erratic wind storm blew through the area.

First, a large transformer in her neighborhood blew creating a loud “boom”.

15 minutes later, a large pine tree in her front yard snapped. The upper section of it caught up in another tree in the yard, sparing her house.

“It’s not a big tree, but it had a week spot and that’s where it snapped,” Burtt said.

Burtt works for a landscape company, so she knew exactly who to call to help clean up the debris. She has lived in her South Hill home for about 5 years, but has yet to seem a storm like this.

“We’ve had much windier times up here, so I’m kind of surprised. I just think the directions of the wind have just been wild this morning -- kind of coming from all directions. I’m cleaning up pine boughs out of my neighbor’s yard!” Burtt said.
