SPOKANE, Wash.-- A group of people gathered Friday night in Spokane to mourn what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary. Many said they were touched or emotionally affected by what happened.

When the vigil started in Riverfront Park, most people were quiet and just held onto candles. But as time went by, person after person stepped up to talk to the group.

Some were students who were shocked someone would target an elementary school. Others were parents, who got emotional imagining it happening to their children.

Overall, people told KREM 2 News being around other folks who are mourning what happened, made them feel a little hope.

Courtney Himebaugh went to the vigil. She said, "We have this group of people here that are just mourning and crying about everything that's going on an we just have got to be there and love everyone."

An organization called the Ambassador Association collected paper hearts to send over to the victim's families. If you'd like to send one, go to their website: ambassadorsgiving.org
