MERIDIAN -- SWAT team members and Meridian firefighters did their best Santa Claus impersonations today.

Very early this morning they picked up sacks full of wrapped Christmas presents for hundreds of kids, then delivered them to their houses.

It was the final step in the Meridian Kiwanis Club's huge effort to make sure less fortunate kids gets some nice gifts under their trees. The club has been doing this for several years now.

"I believe we started with about 62 kids that we helped out that first year, and it's now grown to this year we helped out 371 children in the Meridian School District," said Jedidiah Snelson with the Meridian Kiwanis Club.

The Kiwanis Club gets the names of the children from school counselors.

Snelson says along with the growing list of names of kids needing presents, they also had a longer list of people who turned out to help with the project.
