A shoplifter armed with a ukulele used the instrument to attack a Seattle convenience store clerk Tuesday night in West Seattle.

Seattle Police said the attack happened around 9:15 p.m. at a gas station near Delridge Way SW and SW Myrtle Street. A man and woman, both described only as white and about 22-years-old, tried to steal a six-pack of Olde English Beer.

The clerk confronted the suspects and told them he was calling 911. The male suspect allegedly hit the clerk over the head with the ukulele. The instrument was shattered and the victim’s scalp was cut, causing him to bleed profusely.

The suspects were gone when officers arrived.

The clerk was taken to the hospital. His condition was not reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Seattle Police Department Robbery Unit at (206) 684-5540.
