PORTLAND -- A regular night at a bar turned tense for one Southeast Portland bartender, as an armed man tried to rob him.

Bartender Jason Wilkeson was shutting down the Daily Planet Bar and Grill at 11312 SE Powell Boulevard Monday night when things got tense. As he walked to his car after locking the doors, a masked robber with a gun demanded money.

When Wilkeson struggled to open the door, the man fired a round right above his head. "He said, 'Show me, take me to the safe.' I said it's a drop safe and there's no money in the whole house."

"The alarm was still going off and he was like, 'Turn off the alarm,'" Wilkeson said. The gunman fired again.

"That’s not going to stop the cops from coming here, it’s gonna happen," Wilkeson said he told the armed man. "You’re not going to get any money so you better leave."

The robber took off empty handed. No one was hurt. The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s, 5-foot-10, with a slender build, wearing a black and gray checkered shirt and a mask. He remains at large.
