A 3-year-old lion at Woodland Park Zoo gave birth to four cubs on Thursday night - the first birth of lions at the Seattle zoo in 20 years.
The zoo says the mother, Adia, and cubs are secluded in a maternity den to allow them to bond. The father is the zoo's 13-year-old lion, Hubert.
Staffers are monitoring the litter by web cam.
Lions are born blind and they’ll begin to open their eyes within a week or two after birth.
The cubs will be out for public viewing when they are a little older and demonstrate good mobility skills and when outdoor temperatures are a minimum 50 degrees.
To minimize disturbance to the newborns, the other two adult lions are also indoors and may not be on public exhibit throughout the weekend.
