MOLALLA – A father and daughter got stuck at the bottom of a cliff for hours after trying to rescue their family dog Friday night.

The "high angle rescue" happened just off South Wright Road right in the family’s back yard. Craig Casterline and his 11-year-old daughter Emily were looking for their St. Bernard when a hail storm hit and make an already steep descent in their backyard even more treacherous.

“The dog went down the cliff and we went after her not knowing how bad it was. We couldn’t get out and she couldn’t get out,” Craig Casterline said.

They found their dog Maggie 75 feet down the cliff, but when they got to her they realized they were stuck.

“When I saw the washed out area slide area we had fallen down into, it was muddy and too steep. It was slippery, a little scary, once in awhile I had a little giggle. I kept on swirling around on the rope,” Emily Casterline said.

KGW reporter Reggie Aqui contributed to this report.
