SPOKANE -- The City of Spokane announced some changes that will affect downtown parking meters.

Starting November 23 (Black Friday), some downtown parking meters will be free after 5:00 p.m. to promote holiday shopping. The temporary change will end December 24 (Christmas Eve), when meters will be free after 7:00 p.m.

The City also plans to re-brand its parking enforcement team. Meter maids will be referrered to as “Parking Ambassadors” and their vehicles will display messages like “Ask me questions” and “My Spokane Parking”.

People living in areas where 10-hour meter rates went up will be able to request a monthly pass from their landlords for a reduced rate.

All parking meter changes will take affect by the end of November.
