SALEM -- Cancer has taken the life West Salem High student Lisa Harder, 17, elected as homecoming queen this fall as she battled osteosarcoma, a bone cancer.
She was surrounded by family when she died Sunday at home.
"On a beautiful Sunday morning, November 4th, 2012, Lisa Harder left this world and entered Heaven. She received a new body that was cancer-free and will never again feel pain or sadness," her family wrote in her blog.
Lisa was elected homecoming queen and another student, Tyler Prosser, also battling cancer, was elected homecoming king. Both won by a landslide.
Upon her passing, Lisa Harder's Facebook page listed this Bible passage from Romans 8:18. "Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later."
The two cases have been cited by a parent concerned about what she believes has been a cluster of child cancer cases in West Salem.
A celebration of life has been planned for 3 p.m. on Nov. 8, at the Salem Alliance Church.
