MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- A Portland man suffered serious facial injuries during an armed robbery at a Milwaukie store Saturday morning, and police said he still mopped up his own blood afterwards.

Police were called to the report of a violent armed robbery the 7-Eleven store on SE 82nd Avenue and SE Otty Road just before 4 a.m., according to Sgt. Adam Phillips of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived within one minute and the suspect had already left the scene, Phillips said. A K-9 unit from the Gladstone Police Dept. helped with the search, but a suspect was not located.

The clerk told police he had been robbed at gunpoint and beaten with a handgun, and the suspect got away with cash, menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars.

"Statements and video surveillance show the beating was immediate and unprovoked in any way," Phillips said.

"Deputies reported that even though the clerk was bleeding heavily from his face, he started to mop the blood off the floor and tried to help customers," Phillips added. The clerk was taken by ambulance to OHSU.

The suspect was described as about five feet, seven inches tall, with a slender build, in his early to mid-20s. He was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, and white shoes. He was armed with a pistol.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office at (503) 723-4949.
