A top Seattle Public Schools official is leaving for a job in Dallas.
Aurora Lora, the executive director of the school system's West Seattle Region, will become one of five assistant superintendents at the Dallas Independent School District, joining an executive team being assembled by that system's incoming superintendent, Mike Miles.
According to SPS, Lora was hired in 2010 as one of six executive directors who supervise the district's more than 100 principals. Prior to taking the Seattle job, Lora Lora was the founder and administrator of the Harriet Tubman Leadership Academy for Young Women, a public all-girls middle and high school in Portland that opened in September 2007.
In an email sent on June 21, Lora said the move to Dallas "was not an easy decision for me because I have truly loved my experience working with the principals, assistant principals, schools, families and community members of the West Seattle region. I have learned so much in the past two years from my work as an executive director and will genuinely miss the individuals that I have had the pleasure of working with during my time in Seattle."
Lora's last day at SPS will be July 6.
