CATALDO, Idaho -- Kootenai County authorities say it appears a driver killed in a collision with a power pole early Monday morning was speeding and lost control.
The Kootenai County Sheriff's Ofc. identifies the driver at Todd Michael Sverdsten, 28, of Cataldo. Authorities say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Sverdsten was driving west on Canyon Rd. by Hardy Loop at about 2:15 a.m. Monday when he drifted off the road, over-corrected and then struck a power pole on the other side of the road. Authorities say Investigators determined Sverdsten was going between 75 and 80 MPH in a posted 50 MPH zone.
