JERUSALEM (AP) — Egypt has freed an Israeli journalist arrested last week as he tried to smuggle himself across the Israeli-Egyptian border with a group of African migrants he was documenting.

Yotam Feldman arrived back in Israel early Monday. He told Israeli media that he was glad to have experienced the dangers that the migrants endure.

Thousands of migrants, including many Sudanese refugees, make the perilous journey through Africa to reach Israel each year. The migrants are sometimes shot by Egyptian security forces while trying to cross into Israel.

Feldman, a reporter for the Haaretz daily, was working on the migrant story for an Israeli TV station when arrested March 15 by Egyptian security forces.
