The Minnesota Vikings have hired former University of Idaho Football Coach Robb Akey as a defensive line coach, Vikings fan site The Viking Age reported Friday.

The Viking Age cited multiple reports coming from Idaho media.  Akey would replace the outgoing Brendan Daly on new head coach Mike Zimmer’s staff.

Akey has never worked in the NFL before.  Akey was hired as the UI Vandals head coach in 2007 but was relieved of his coaching duties in October 2012. At the time, the Vandals were off to a 1-7 start.  Akey’s win/loss record as head coach of the Vandals was 20-50.

Akey later sued UI after his dismissal.

The Vikings are continuing their transition with Zimmer, having fired former head coach Leslie Frazier after the team finished 5-10-1 in the 2013/2014 season.
