KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho—Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputies found more than 200 pieces of mail abandoned off Howard Road near Athol.

The mail belonged to more than 70 different people. The mail is believed to have been stolen from resident’s mailboxes between Spirit Lake and Bayview according to deputies. They said thefts are believed to have occurred between October 10 and October 13.

Authorities said they are working on identifying and contacting the victims in the case. Deputies believed bank statements, credits card statements, pre-approved credit card offers and other financial documents were the likely targets.

Deputies are encouraging the identified victims to contact their financial institutions and their billing entities.

All of the mail is considered evidence and cannot be released at this time. Victims will be notified once the mail can be released.

If anyone has information in these cases they are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 208-446-1300.
