SPOKANE, Wash. -- A local man who had his house cleaned out by crooks and then found the stolen items being sold on Craigslist said he is frustrated with Spokane Police.
Rick Harter said crooks recently cleaned out his house on East Lyons. Harter took matters into his own hands and found the stolen items on Craigslist. He then made a call to the man that posted the ad, which led him to a home on the 4000 block of North Freya.
After police executed a search warrant at that home, much of the stolen property was returned. Harter said, though, if he had not gone on Craigslist and made contact with the crooks, the crime would never have been solved. No arrests had been made in the case, either.
“Since the day I went and got my refrigerator back, I haven't heard from them,” said Harter.
The Spokane Police Department issued a statement regarding the case, saying there had been no arrests because the investigation was ongoing. SPD spokespeople also said they were confident there would be multiple individuals arrested on multiple charges. They also said they appreciated the work Harter did on his own.
Investigators did not say when the investigation might be completed.
The man and woman who were found in possession of the stolen goods continued to maintain their innocence, according to Harter.
