SPOKANE, Wash. — The case of Ryan Murphy, the former Shadle Park High School teacher accused of sexual misconduct with students, was transferred to Stevens County judge.
Court officials said Murphy’s dad being a judge in Spokane County could have created a conflict of interest.
Ryan Murphy worked as an English teacher and a track coach at the time of the alleged misconduct. Spokane Public School District leaders said that Murphy worked for the district for more than a decade. District leaders allowed Murphy to resign in August of 2012 when the allegations arose.
Court documents showed that a student admitted to having sex with Murphy. The former teacher allegedly began an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old freshman when he was 40-years-old. The pair had sex at Murphy’s home and in parking lots, according to investigators.
The alleged victim told investigators that Murphy took her to the MAC and met her along Cliff Drive. She said that their meetings eventually led to sex. Court documents detailed that the two regularly met on Thursdays because Murphy’s wife was not home.
The teenager added that they also had sex in Murphy’s car at Woodridge Elementary School. She also told detectives that Murphy gave her letters and gifts.
