SPOKANE, Wash.-- Three members of the 1999 Gonzaga men’s basketball team, which went to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tournament, are taking on a different role these days.

Mike Nilson, Matt Santangelo, and Ryan Floyd are swapping seats on the bench from being players to coaches.  In one more odd twist, all three have sons on the team they coach as a group called Team Batman.  All the players are between the ages of five and six.

“We’re just normal dads and they’re just normal kids out there having fun,” said Nilson.  “I’ve always wanted Carter to be coached by great men, and these two guys are the best.”

“To say that there is a Floyd, a Nilson, and a Santangelo playing again is pretty sweet, I love it,” said Santangelo.

The junior basketball league is all in fun, and they don’t keep score.
