CONNELL, Wash. -- Police in Connell say they have recovered the murder weapon and a getaway vehicle after last week's deadly shooting.
Officers say a .45 semi-automatic handgun was discovered in Othello and is now in Connell Police custody.
Police say a shooting happened in the 400 block of E. Elm Street around 8:30pm Thursday. When officers arrived on the scene they found a 30 year old Hispanic man dead from several gunshot wounds.
They are still looking for the murder suspect, Julio Cesar Hernandez, 40, of Connell, who fled the scene. Police say he is the ex-husband of the victim's girlfriend. He was last seen driving a 1988 black Ford Mustang with Washington license 011UZQ.
Investigators alerted police departments across the state to watch for him following the shooting.
Police originally used his cell phone to track his last known location to Electric City about 120 miles away, but after several hours they realized his ex had given them the wrong phone number. Investigators instead suspect Hernandez was last in the city of Othello around 9 a.m. Friday.
Residents say violent crimes are rare in Connell and Police Chief Mike Kessler says he had to go back in the records to the year 1994 to find the city’s last murder investigation.
Hernandez is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his location should call 911 or the Connell Police Department at 509-234-4141.
