SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Spokane soldier killed in Afghanistan was buried in his home town.
Hundreds gathered to watch Matthew Stiltz be laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial in Spokane.
He died for his country in Afghanistan on his third tour earlier this month. His friends call him a soldier through-and-through, and Saturday, they said goodbye along with his wife and family.
“We’re here today to honor the memory, the service and to lay to rest Staff Sgt. Matthew H. Stiltz of the United States Army,” Stiltz’s friend Eric Riley said.
Two flags were folded in his honor and given to his wife, Brooke, and mom.
His family said they felt it was important to invite the media to his burial today because Matthew served for everyone.
