SEATTLE -- At least one person is dead in a fatal hit-and-run in downtown Seattle Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened at 9th and James Street. Police said a pedestrian was crossing the busy intersection when the person was struck and dragged by a large truck. The pedestrian died at the scene.

Police are looking for the truck involved in the accident and will be review surveillance video in the area. No description of the truck has been released. They say it could be possible the driver of the truck did not realize he or she hit someone.

Police have not released details of the victim.

The intersection of the 9th and James will be closed for several hours, at least through 6:30 p.m., while police conduct their investigation. Buses have been rerouted and drivers should avoid the area.
