SPOKANE-- The bomb squad removed an IED at the bottom of Spokane’s South Hill Friday afternoon.
It was found at the base of pedestrian footbridge on I-90 near Third and Regal. A person walking along the footbridge noticed the suspicious looking object just after noon.
A bomb squad was called in and decided it was an IED, so they brought in a robot to help retrieve the device.
Neighbors were forced to clear the area and stay inside until the sparkler bomb was removed.
The bomb can be seen in the robot's claw above.
Law enforcement closed all eastbound lanes of I-90 and Third Avenue as they removed the sparkler bomb, but have since reopened all area roads.
Authorities took the device to Fairchild Air Force Base to be detonated and processed for evidence.
Right now police say they don’t have any suspects, but hope to find out more information as soon as they collect evidence.
