COEUR D'ALENE-- For the seventh year in a row, Camp No Limits will host children who have suffered an amputation in Coeur d’Alene.
The camp strives to boost campers’ confidence.
Camp No Limits reaches new heights every year. It started Tuesday in North Idaho, just one of several locations across the country where the camp takes place.
A day at the beach is an easy draw for most people in the summer, but it can be a challenge for kids who have lost a limb and, perhaps, some self esteem. No Limits hopes to show kids they are not alone and how to interact with someone not used to a limb difference.
Children of all ages come to the camp with various goals, but they walk away with the skills to share their difference with others.
Some of the original campers from the first location now come to Coeur d’Alene as counselors. Keegan Moreau tried to learn how to tie her laces for a year. She gave up, and then learned again. Now she teaches others to do the same, but she remembers being I their shoes when she first came to camp.
“I was really shy, and I hid behind my mom’s jacket. I had my arm behind my back the whole time.”
It’s that kind of transformation that inspires camp organizers.
It’s a family made of kids, parents and friends, all of whom create a place to teach everyone there is no limit to what kids can do.
