A police chase took a turn through a Lakewood living room Tuesday afternoon when a suspect crashed into a home.
Ian Althaus was inside his house with his 3-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son when the suspect crashed his red SUV into Althaus' garage around 3 p.m. At first Althaus thought it was an earthquake – until he saw a stranger running through his house.
Lakewood police had been chasing the suspect, Isaia Manaea, for about three minutes when the driver crashed into Althaus’ house. Police say Manaea was involved in an armed burglary earlier in the day, and he was already wanted on a drug warrant.
The Althaus said despite what happened, he feels pretty lucky.
"All I can think about now is what if that guy got a hold of me or one of my kids or something. He did still have the firearm on him," said Althaus. "My kids were in the living room when it happened, and as you can see from the car, it's almost in my living room. We got pretty lucky."
Unfortunately for the family, the impact of the crash scared their dog Duke. He ran off and has not come back. Meanwhile, the family is staying with relatives.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital to be checked out. He was expected to be booked into jail Tuesday night.
