State troopers say two people were killed in a head-on collision Tuesday morning after one driver tried to pass another on the highway in heavy fog.
It happened just before 1 a.m. on State Route 548 in Kickerville near Bellingham.
The Washington State Patrol says a 39-year-old man was driving a pickup eastbound when he tried passing a car in front of him. The truck collided with a car, being driven by an 18-year-old woman, that was coming the opposite direction.
Both drivers died at the scene.
The driver of the car that was being passed was not hurt.
The WSP incident report says the collision was due to an unsafe pass.
