OLYMPIA, Wash. - Washington state Sen. Nick Harper is resigning from the job.

Harper said in a statement Saturday that he can't fully commit his time to the job while being a husband, father of two girls and an attorney. The Democrat says he's proud of his three years as a senator.

Harper is from the state's 38th District, which covers areas in and around Everett. A new lawmaker will be appointed to replace him.
