BATTLE GROUND, Wash. - A Clark County sheriff's officer says a 57-year-old Battle Ground woman has died of injuries suffered in an apparent fall from a horse Wednesday.
The Clark County Sheriff's office said the body of Candace "Candy" Morrison, 57, a music teacher at Hudson's Bay High School, was found on a gravel road in Hockinson after she had been riding a horse.
A fellow rider had seen Morrison's horse return to its stable without Morrison and went looking for her, said the sheriff's office. At about 6:45 p.m., she found her body on NE Rawson Rd. and called deputies, according to Sgt. Kevin Allais with the Major Crimes Unit of the Sheriff's Office. Morrison had suffered head trauma and was not wearing a riding helmet.
Allais said Morrison was a music teacher at Hudson's Bay High School in Vancouver, and the school's principal has been notified about the incident.
Morrison is the second Hudson's Bay teacher to pass away in the past six months. Gordon Patterson was killed in a hit-and-run traffic collision while riding his bicycle in Vancouver in September 2009. Antonio Cellestine, 18, was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in that crash.
