NORTH SPOKANE-- Emergency crews are responded to Newport Hwy and Elm for reports off two officers down Tuesday around 4p.m.

Dave Reagan with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says the incident started as a traffic stop at Highway 2 and Elm when two officers were shot.

Witnesses say they heard gun shots and looked out a window and saw a black SUV flying down the street. They said they saw two police officers down on the ground. Two witnesses went over to the officers and compressed their gunshot wounds. The witnesses say one officer had two shots to the arms and one to the leg. The other officer had at least one shot to the leg. The witnesses say the officers were coherent as paramedics arrived on scene.

One witness says she heard about 7 gun shots from inside of the Red Robin.

Police say they were searching for a black Honda Accord being driven north from scene by the suspect. The man was described as in his 40's with longer hair, possibly a wig.

Crews chased the suspect driving on Highway 2, Crawford and 395. The suspect vehicle drove other cars off of the road.

The suspect in the chase reportedly shot himself in the head near Hwy 395 & Crawford.

Police are searching for two more possible shooting suspects hiding inside a trailer at the 900 block of East Princeton. There is possibly a 2-year-old with these suspects.

The North Spokane YMCA is on lock down.

The two officers have been taken to Sacred Heart. Spokane County Sheriff's officials say one officer is doing ‘ok’ and the other is ‘not doing very well’

KREM 2 News is on scene.

Northbound traffic on 395 is being diverted.Officials say Newport Highway between Hawthorne and Holland will be shut down "for hours".
