Train vs. sleeping man
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Police say a man who was seriously injured early Tuesday morning in Olympia said he was sleeping in a train tunnel when he was hit by a train.
Police and fire crews were sent to the area around 7th Avenue S and Cherry at about 1:30 a.m. They were told there was a bleeding man at the front door of a nearby home - he was screaming he had been hit by a train.
When they arrived on the scene, they found a man in his 20s suffering from “very traumatic injuries.”
He was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Officers located the train tunnel where they believe the man was hit. The tunnel runs about 3 blocks from the area of 7th and Adams to just past Capitol and Amanda Smith Streets.
Investigators then located a train that had passed through the tunnel at about the time of the incident. The train was several miles away.
The accident is still under investigation.
