WILSON CREEK, Wash. – A train hauling grain derailed about 20 miles north of Moses Lake on Saturday morning.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas said about 25 cars loaded with grain derailed.

No one was hurt when the 110-car train traveling from Florence, Minn., to Seattle derailed Saturday morning near Wilson Creek, about 18 miles north of Moses Lake. However, it blocked the single track, used by about 20 freight and Amtrak trains daily.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Some freight traffic between Seattle and Spokane was rerouted around the derailment.

Amtrak spokeswoman Tracy Connell said two Amtrak trains were affected. They were busing passengers between Seattle and Spokane until the track is cleared.

Melonas said Sunday that one of the derailed cars was put back on the track and the rest pushed aside to be scrapped. The spilled corn was being taken to a nearby grain elevator.

Workers planned to have the line opened by Sunday afternoon.
