The so-called gun show loophole has been closed in Tacoma. The Tacoma City Council voted Tuesday to require background checks for private gun sales at city owned and managed properties.

The change was sparked by a recent gun show at the Tacoma Dome. Of the 152 vendors, only 12 were private sellers who did not do background checks at the point of sale.

"Right now, we do not have universal checks at the national or state level. We really can't afford to wait." said City Council Member Ryan Mello.
