Olympia Police have made an arrest in two abduction cases that occurred in November 2013 and February 2014 and they are concerned that the suspect may have committed other similar crimes.
Police say Bryon E. Johnston was arrested by Olympia Police detectives as he was leaving his home in DuPont at 3 a.m. Tuesday. Johnston was booked into the Thurston County Jail for two counts of Kidnapping 1st degree, one count Rape 1st degree, and 1 count Attempted Rape 1st degree.
Police say the two victims are women in their 20s who were approached by the suspect while they waited at bus stops. In both cases, the suspect drove up to the stops in a white SUV and offered to give the women a ride.
Police say both victims accepted the ride and, shortly after getting in the vehicle, the suspect proceeded to grope them and when the victims demanded that the suspect let them out of the vehicle, he refused to do so. He then threatened each victim that he was going to “cut them” if they didn’t cooperate with him.
The suspect drove the victims behind an abandoned motel in Olympia where he assaulted them. Both victims fought the suspect and were able to escape from the vehicle.
Police say at the time of his arrest, Johnston was driving a white Cadillac Escalade believed to be the same one used during both attacks.
Anyone with information about incidents involving the suspect are urged to call the Olympia Police Department at 360-753-8300.
