LIBERTY LAKE -- A Spokane County Sheriff's Lieutenant was arrested for DUI Friday following a morning rollover wreck that knocked over a power pole.

Officials say Lt. Stephen Jones was arrested for DUI by a Washington State Patrol trooper early Friday morning after receiving medical treatment for a head laceration he sustained during the crash.

Police say Jones rolled his SUV near Third and Molter around 1:30 a.m., crashing into a tree and power pole, cutting power to parts of the area. Avista restored power by 9:00 a.m.

Troopers reported Jones' breath smelled of alcohol and his eyes were watery.

Spokane County Sheriff's Department officials say they are disappointed in Jones' actions, but he will not lose his job over the matter. They report he stayed on scene following the crash, and did not hinder the investigation.

Jones was hired by the Spokane County Sheriff's Department in 1984 and currently holds an administrative position working on special projects. Officials say there is no immediate change in his work status.

A blood alcohol sample was taken from Jones while at the hospital, though results will not be known for about a month. No charges can be filed until the sample is returned.
