Pro-life advocates say they will display what they call "shocking" images of aborted fetuses outside a Tacoma high school Wednesday to protest alleged discrimination of a student pro-life club by school administrators.

Advocates say Wilson High School is preventing the Wilson Students for Life from hanging some posters or holding certain events at the school, a claim that the school district disputes. The Thomas More Society, a Chicago-based law firm, says the school is violating the federal Equal Access Act.

The society gives two examples of posters that were denied by the school. One read, "Since Roe v. Wade 1/3 of our generation has been aborted" with a picture of a milk carton and the word "missing" above the photo of a baby. The second displays a quote from President Ronald Reagan which says, "I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion is already born."

Shannon McMinimee, a general counsel for the Tacoma School District, says all school clubs must go through an approval process to hang posters. She says that, as of last Wednesday, there were 30 approved pro-life posters displayed on the Wilson school campus and that there were two other school club posters – one for the Gay-Straight Alliance Club and one for the Yoga Club.

When asked about the district's response, the group admitted it was allowed to put up those posters.

The Thomas More Society also accused the school of allowing the Gay-Straight Alliance club to hold a Day of Silence on campus while discouraging the Wilson Students for Life from doing the same. McMinimee says, to her knowledge, the pro-life group has not yet made such a request and added that Wilson Students for Life was given permission to hold a diaper drive.

The Anti-Choice Project says it plans to stand outside Wilson High School when classes let out at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday, holding 4-foot by 3-foot images of aborted fetuses.

"The pictures are shocking," said Anti-Choice Project co-founder Tom Herring, "because abortion is a shocking act of violence which kills a baby."
