LA CONNER, Wash. -- Skagit County officials will re-open the La Conner Rainbow Bridge after witnesses reported seeing what looked like a piece of concrete fall off the bridge Thursday afternoon.

Washington Department of Transportation inspectors from Olympia determined that no damage was done to the bridge and could re-open.

There were conflicting reports of what happened. According to Skagit County Public Works officials, someone reported hearing a "bang" on the bridge and saw a cloud of dust beneath the bridge. According to Fire District 13 Commissioner Larry Kibbee, a routine inspection was going on by Skagit County inspectors. They saw something they didn't like and that closed the bridge.

Roads leading to the bridge were also closed. Traffic was rerouted across the Twin Bridges on Highway 20. Drivers are advised to take alternative routes.
